Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr.
Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr., President Barack Obama minister for more than 20 years, is a man of faith, a homiletic genius, a theological scholar and a pastor’s pastor. As senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois he made Trinity a model for the Black Church. It was one of the most politically active and socially conscious churches in the nation.
His church has over 50 active ministries with social justice advocacy at the core of its theological perspective. Rev. Wright’s church programs ranged from HIV/AIDS outreach programs and two senior housing complexes, to a federally funded childcare program for low-income family and the Kwame Nkrumah Academy serving students on the south side of Chicago. Dr. Wright was/is committed to put into practice the Gospel he preaches. In May 2008, Dr. Wright retired as senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ and he now spends his time preaching, teaching, leading study tours to Africa, Brazil, and the Caribbean.
